Owned by Karlien Lang since 2019, the shop has called the Village Center home since its founding in 2016. While Closet Traders as a store is constantly evolving, they’ve always stuck by the guiding principles of founder and former owner Mellysa Kaniok. Then and still today, the store is committed to supporting a community of small businesses by featuring local artisans’ creations including candles, artwork, home décor, jewelry and so much more!

Karlien is proud to be a part of the Grayslake community where she’s been a resident for nearly 10 years. As a mom, wife, and business owner she is passionate about giving her shoppers great eco-conscious options whether purchasing for themselves or as gifts, and through consignment, the chance to earn cash or store credit for goods they no longer use, but others can enjoy.

Consignment at Closet Traders is another key offering, which provides a place for people in and around the community to recycle and reuse new or preowned items. Karlien curates these items by having high-standards and a strong sense of what visitors are looking for. She accepts home items, women's & children's clothing, shoes, accessories, jewelry, and handbags - all which fill the store and offer a truly unique selection.

Since taking ownership, Karlien has hosted a Trunk Sale & Merchant Market each Fall, which continues to grow in size. This Saturday, October 7th is the 4th Annual market, which will not only include a mix of vintage and handmade artisans’ goods on site, but she’s also expanded it with live music, a food truck, and children’s activities from Circus Kazoo and Busy Brains Children’s Museum making it an event for the whole-family.
